Shanghai Guide 2008

Shanghai is a mess of people. If you really want to "experience" the Chinese people, get on the subway at People's Square mid-week at rush hour!
Getting around can be frustrating, but in general the public transportation system is pretty efficient.
Take the subway whenever possible. Most of time it's faster and its really cheap. The minimum price is 3 RMB, I've never spent more than 6RMB on a trip, but I think if you go from one extreme to the other you can spend about 7RMB.

Here's a quick run down of things to do in Shanghai:

The Bund - The famous walk along the waterfront of the HuangPu river.
From Shanghai!
The river can be viewed from both sides.
Getting across the river:
1) There is a 2RMB tourist ferry that takes you across. I think its the best way to get across since you get a nice view on the way. It's south of the waterfront areas on both sides.
2) There is a really cheesy tunnel ride. It might be worth doing it once, just so you can tell others about it...I think its 30RMB
3) Take the subway (most efficient).
4) Take a taxi, there is a car tunnel.
